Before you start

A working Wi-Fi connectionYou only need it for installation — the eSIM uses cellular data after that.
The QR code from your providerCheck your email. You can display it on another device, print it, or use manual entry.
At least 30% batteryCharge your phone before starting so the installation is not interrupted by a low battery.

Pick your device

    Connect to the internet

    Use Wi-Fi or your existing mobile data connection to download the eSIM profile.

    Open Settings → Cellular

    Tap Add eSIM (or Add Cellular Plan on older iOS versions). Choose QR scanning or manual entry.

    Scan the QR code

    Scan the QR code supplied by your provider. If you only have activation details, choose Enter Details Manually.

    Follow the on-screen instructions

    Let iOS verify and download the plan, then confirm it and give it a recognizable name, such as Japan trip.

    Choose your default lines

    Keep your regular line for calls and messages, and select the travel eSIM for cellular data.

iPad: add the eSIM in cellular data settings. Steps vary by model and software version.

Before departure, check when your plan’s validity starts. If early installation is supported, set it up somewhere with reliable Wi-Fi.

Here are some common issues and steps you can try.

Make sure the full QR code is visible, clear and well lit. If scanning fails, follow the provider’s instructions for manual installation using the SM-DP+ address and activation code.

Apple Watch has separate mobile service requirements. Do not assume a travel eSIM for your phone will work on the watch.
