eSIM in Vietnam: good to know
Vietnam's networks — Viettel, Vinaphone, and MobiFone — cover the whole S-shaped country surprisingly well. Viettel, the largest, reaches the mountain north (Ha Giang, Sapa) and the Mekong Delta better than anyone; city coverage in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City is strong on all three.
Local SIMs are cheap but require passport registration, and unregistered SIMs get cut off. A travel eSIM avoids that entirely and is ready before your Grab ride from the airport. Data prices in Vietnam are among the lowest anywhere, so even 'premium' eSIM prices stay modest.
Common questions
Which Vietnamese network is best for motorbike loops?
Viettel. On the Ha Giang loop or remote coastline, it holds signal where the others fade. City-only trips can use any network.
Is 5G available in Vietnam?
5G is rolling out in the big cities but is not yet universal. Plan around 4G, which is fast and everywhere tourists go.
Do I need to register a travel eSIM in Vietnam?
No — the registration rules that apply to local SIMs don't affect roaming travel eSIMs. Activate by QR code and you're online on arrival.
Will my eSIM work in caves and national parks?
